Cable car ride to Lantau island
(Feb-2010)

Journal Entry... By the third visit, it is expected that we had covered most of the touristy spots in Hongkong. On a third return to Hongkong, hubby and I tossed coin to venture out from Hongkong's familiar spots to nearby Lantau island.

1-feb: Cable car to Lantau Island...

Hubby had mapped out a route via the local Metro to Lantau island. Metro ride to Lantau was some kind of an - "Are we there yet?" - journey, partly because we started from Tsim Sha Tsui. Walked a distance to connect to another Metro, after reaching Central station, where it also became a battle choosing between the Orange line to Lantau island, and the Pink line to HK Disneyland, in said station.

Lantau island is neither for the dead-set shopaholics, nor the thrill-seekers queuing for Disneyland's Space Mountain. Only the thought of having your money's worth for a longer 25-minute, 5.7 kilometer scenic cable car ride, either with a solid bottom, or that "I-Dare-You-Ride-It" glass bottom, while communing with nature as the cable car inched its way up the mountain, was reason enough to choose a non-commercial agenda for the day. What's more, there's a ginormous Buddha waiting on the mountain peak, to reward travelers with good luck for the visit. From Buddha's vantage point was a panoramic island setting. It was hubby's birthday when we went to Lantau, which made the day trip extra special, even when Mickey Mouse was a no-show in the island.
