Sanssouci palace in Potsdam
(Feb-2011)

Journal Entry... I remember taking a photo of the "Frederick the Great and Flute Concert at Sanssouci" painting, in Berlin's Alte Nationalgalerie. What's Sanssouci, anyway?

3-feb: Day trip to Potsdam...
Two Peas in Potsdam
Sans souci means "no worries", in French. Sanssouci is also a royal palace in Potsdam-- Schloss Sanssouci, home to German kaisers and princes.
A train ride from Berlin, and a bus ride from Potsdam train station, later, hubby and I walked up to the Sanssouci palace... which was closed already late in the day, sigh. Countless ducks were frolicking mindlessly down a cold tub at the palace backyard, call it their sans souci lifestyle.
Rub-a-dub-dub... too many ducks in a cold tub... in Schloss Sanssouci
Into the woods
at Potsdam
Hubby and I were not able to see all of Potsdam palaces. It was a vast area, and the palaces were far from each other. Between palaces were bare trees of winter, and a footpath into the woods. At the far end, from Schloss Sanssouci, was the Neus Palais (New Palace). Hubby was not carefree enough to walk back to Schloss Sanssouci, and because it had gotten darker early in the day (in winter time.) We were told there was a bus stop across the street from Neus Palais, which was well and good as the bus saved us from walking back to Sanssouci palace (if there was no bus stop there...) to Potsdam train station for the return train to Berlin.
